With Wicket it is possible to build a web application using only Java code and XHTML compliant HTML pages.
The enhancements that Ajax brings to the web might not be your cup of tea, because of Java Script.
Either because you find it too complex or because you just don't like it.
But that's great about our team; I feel we complement each other really well. Now that Wicket's core concepts have evolved to the point where most of the team is comfortable with them, I mainly work on improving our API and abstractions.
